UN official hails Qatar's humanitarian efforts


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Doha: UN Under-Secretary-General for Humanitarian Affairs and Emergency Relief Coordinator Stephen O";Brien hailed Qatar";s efforts in the field of humanitarian aid and relief work, which are highly appreciated by the United Nations and the international community.

Speaking to Al Sharq, he highlighted Qatar";s commitment to humanitarian issues, noting its efforts in conflict-hit areas, especially in the Middle East.

O";Brien thanked and praise Qatar";s leadership and government for humanitarian efforts to alleviate the suffering of people all over the world.

He said Qatar pledged $92m in humanitarian aid in 2015 and its humanitarian contribution in the current year reached $110m in Syria, along with other aid in Iraq, Yemen and many countries.

Qatar has built hospitals and schools for displaced Syrians in Turkey and other places, 'I have seen all these Qatari efforts and institutions built by Doha in many places through tours... the Qatari aid helped people dramatically and effectively,” he said.

He also highlighted Qatar";s diplomatic efforts in resolving conflicts in the region, calling on the international community to follow the Qatari example in providing humanitarian assistance in Iraq, Syria, Yemen and other countries.

He said such aid contributes to saving the lives of innocents, including women and children.
