Bahraini court sentences 35 defendants to jail on terrorism charges


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) MANAMA, June 16 (KUNA) -- Bahrain''s High Criminal Court has sentenced 13 defendants to 15 years in jail and 22 defendants to three years in prison on a number of charges, including terrorism, official media reported Thursday.

The Court charged the accused of attempted murder, arson, and vandalism acts on public properties for a terrorist purpose, in addition to illegal rioting and possessing Molotov cocktails, Chief of the Terror Crime Prosecution Advocate General Ahmed Al-Hammadi said in a press statement, according to Bahrain News Agency (BNA).

The convicts plotted against a police patrol on Budaiya Highway, near Duraz, with Molotov cocktails setting it alight with the intention to kill policemen, and terrorize people, said the statement.

Two policemen were wounded as their vehicle burned as a result of the attack, it added. (end) mga.rj.ma
