Dubai to get landmark stadium worth Dh3 billion


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) His Highness Shaikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum Vice President and Prime Minister of the UAE and Ruler of Dubai was briefed on the innovative model pilot design of Mohammed bin Rashid Stadium which accommodates 60000 spectators.

The Stadium's cost is estimated at Dh 3 billion and will be built on the site of Dubai Sports Club at Al Aweer area in Dubai.

This came during his inspection to the giant models of the stadium at Meydan Hotel where he listened to elaboration by Mattar Al Tayer Vice President of Dubai Sports club on the stadium which combines the state-of-the art design the area of the place and the use of hi-tech equipment in construction.

The Stadium with a unique design of its kind will add a new aesthetic landmark to the Dubai city. It will be the first pitch in the world that lies high on the ground taking the shape of half ball lifted on foundations.

It is fully air-conditioned and complies with the standards and specifications of the World Football governing body( FIFA).

The design of the project considered achieving the different elements of sustainability. The concept of outdoor environmental convenience such as the gardens and meadows as well as the shaded areas trees water and winds will bring comfort to the pedestrians.

In his briefing Mattar Al Tayer said "Out of tens international companies working in the field of sports buildings design worldwide Perkins + Will the global engineering and architectural consultant has been chosen to execute the mega stadium which takes in more than 60000 spectators 8941 seats for VIP's terraces and 6688 seats for the below terraces.

" The stadium will include sport buildings exercise pitch sports training hall and car parking lots that take as many as 5000 motor vehicles sports museum spreading on an area of 1500 square meters multi-purpose hall spanning on 3500 square meters area.

Other facilities include conferences and exhibitions auditoriums and balconies serve as waiting place for spectators and interact with the surrounding atmospheres.

"All the facilities will be in compliance with the security and safety standards for the public and the architectural design also considers clarity and simplicity along with reducing the moving spaces to the lowest possible level" he said adding the inlets and exits from and to the Stadium will be linked to the Al Aweer interchange emirates road and the streets near the stadium.

Shaikh Mohammed expressed admiration over the design and layouts and directed the speed up in executing and completing the project as per the approved schedule.
