Iran sees more profits from electricity exports

(MENAFN) Iran is carefully studying the matter whether it should implement more efforts to export more electricity generated from natural gas rather than the gas, upon the removal of sanctions.

Accordingly, experts see that basically electricity generated from natural gas will have a greater added value, let alone proposing that exporting electricity will lead to larger economic gains.

Iran is the leading power generator in the Middle East and the 15th top producer in the world. The country currently exports electricity to Turkey, Armenia, Turkmenistan, Pakistan and Iraq.

Furthermore, Iran's nominal power generation capacity currently stands at nearly 75,000 megawatts (MW) and it plans to grow this by 5,000 MW per year to touch 120,000 MW by the year 2025.
