(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Assistant Undersecretary for Citizenship and Passports Affairs at the Ministry of Interior Major-General Sheikh Mazen Al-Jarrah was quoted as saying expatriates living in the country will now be allowed to sponsor only their wives and children which means dependent visas for parents will be stopped, reports Al-Anba daily.
This is in addition to a new mechanism which will be introduced to streamline family visit visas. The official added, from now on, the duration of a visit visa issued for a wife or child will be limited to three months only while visit visas for relatives will be restricted to just one month.
The official said a visitor must from now on enter Kuwait within one month after the issuance of the visit visa otherwise the visa will be automatically cancelled. This cancels an earlier decision which gave the holder of visit visa three months to enter the country from the date of issuance.
In another development, Jarrah announced expatriates who are reported absconding by their sponsors will not be deported immediately until the General Investigations Department checks the authenticity of the absconding report.
The department will decide whether the person will be deported or allowed to stay in the country. Jarrah added the Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Al-Khaled Al-Sabah is likely to review the increase in fees for service offered to expatriates during the next parliamentary session.
Meanwhile, Undersecretary of Ministry of Social Affairs and Labor Dr Matar Al- Mutairi has announced that an emergency plan will soon be allotted for all cooperative societies in order to handle any emergency situation in the country, reports Al- Rai daily.
He said this on the sidelines of a Ghabqa organized by the ministry in honor of the voluntary team formed by the ministry to follow up the consequences of the recent terrorist blast. Meanwhile, sources revealed that Dr Al- Mutairi issued a decision to appoint 43 supervisors for taking care of the elderly in the social care homes, reports Al-Seyassah daily. They indicated that the new supervisors will undergo a training course on elderly care.
