KRCS launches "biggest" humanitarian aid in Kurdistan


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait Red Crescent Society (KRCS) has started carrying out the initial phase of a KD 200-million humanitarian campaign that was allocated to help refugees in Iraq's Kurdistan.

The campaign, the biggest aid campaign as of today, is realized in collaboration with Barazani Charity Foundation. It will give out a month worth of food items to more than 26,000 displaced families in Harsham refugee camp in Kurdistan.

The first phase of this aid campaign will include the distribution of food items, KRCS Deputy Chairman Anwar Al-Hasawi told KUNA. Medical care will be provided next, he added.

Al-Hasawi noted that conditions in the camp are harsh and require more attention and care.

On his part, Kuwait's General Consul in Erbil Omar Al- Kandari said that the KD 200-million aid campaign was given out last month under the directions of His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah to ease the suffering of the Iraqi refugees in Kurdistan.

Kurdistan has announced that USD 1.4 billion is needed to provide food, shelter and medical care the camp settlers.
