Oman-Nepal practice match washed out


(MENAFN- Muscat Daily) Rain forced Oman's first official practice match - ahead of the ICC World Twenty20 Qualifiers - against Nepal to end without any result in Belfast Northern Ireland on Monday.

Put to bat first Oman was restricted to 115 for four in 16.3 overs before play was suspended due to rain. After the skies cleared up although briefly Nepal was given a revised victory target of 126 in 15 overs.

Zeeshan Maqsood top-scored with 44 off 31 balls hitting four boundaries and three sixes. Vaibhav Wategaonkar (23) and Khawar Ali (22) were among the runs for Oman which is coached by former Sri Lankan great Duleep Mendis.

Nepal was on three for no loss only three balls into the chase when rain returned forcing the contest to be washed out.

Oman is set to take on Northern Ireland on Tuesday at the same venue in its second and final practice match.

Oman is in Group B alongside Afghanistan Canada Kenya The Netherlands Scotland and UAE. The top six teams will join ten Test-playing nations in the World T20 slated for March 11-April 3 next year in India.

The teams that top the two groups will automatically qualify for the World T20 while the sides that finish second and third in each of the two groups will play cross-over matches with the two winners also progressing to the main tournament.
