UAE- Three face attempted murder charges over road rage, sword attack

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Three Emiratis stood trial in a Dubai court over an alleged case of road rage that ended in a sword attack.

Two jobless men, and an accomplice who is still at large, faced charges of attempted murder in the Court of First Instance in Dubai on Sunday.

The two Emiratis, M.A. and K.A, aged 22 and 26, who allegedly attacked a compatriot with swords with the intention to kill him, faced two counts of attempted murder and damage of property.

The two accused also chased another man with the swords to kill him in the incident that took place on March 11 at 1am in Al Qusais.

M.A. and K.A. were accused of attacking the first complainant's car with swords, causing damage to it.

The first complainant, a military man, said he did not know the attackers prior to the incident.

He told the prosecutor that he and his friend were in their car at a traffic light junction when they had an altercation with the driver of another car.

That driver - M.A. - then stepped out and rode in their car before he was asked to leave.

"As we drove off that man hit our car's headlights. When we stepped out, we were attacked with swords. I was hit in the head and shoulder."

His friend managed to run away unhurt but the damage caused to his car was worth around Dh4,000.

He added that he was taken by surprise as he did not expect he would be attacked with swords.

The other complainant, an Omani national, said that M.A. was driving the car and K.A. was on the passenger seat.

He confirmed in the investigation that he had seen the accused hitting his friend with swords and damaging his car.

"One of them was yelling at me to stop so that he could chop my head off," he claimed.

He added that his friend did not have enough time to protect himself as he collapsed shortly after being attacked.

According to the forensic medicine report, the injuries inflicted on the first victim could have been fatal had he not been rushed to the hospital.

M.A. and K.A. have criminal records.
