Jordan refuses Syrian accusations of intervening in its crisis

(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) Jordan, on Monday, rejected accusations leveled by some Syrian officials of the Kingdom interfering in the crisis in their country going on for more than four years.

Minister of State for Media Affairs and government spokesman, Mohammad Al-Momani, said Jordan, which is suffering since the beginning of the Syrian crisis due to influx of refugees, security related tensions, infiltration attempts, and with terrorist organizations threatening the security of the whole region, has been calling since day one for a political and peaceful solution so that the situation does not escalate.

He added, "Instead of accusing Jordan, Syrian officials should have worked to revive hope for Syrian people to end the cycle of violence and achieve their aspirations and their generations' dream." Al-Momani renewed Jordan's call for the Syrian regime to cooperate with international efforts to achieve a political solution to the conflict in Syria, respect international legitimacy and cooperate to address the tragic humanitarian situation instead of looking for reasons to accuse others.

He stressed that Jordan is keen on Syria's unity, stability and sovereignty.

The minister noted that Jordan called for a peaceful political solution, supported all efforts made in this direction and did all it could as part of its national and humanitarian duty to aid Syrian brothers, despite the Kingdom's limited resources.

The top official of the government pointed out that in addition to its humanitarian role in hosting about one and a half million refugees and its efforts to address infiltration attempts across borders, Jordan is part of an international coalition to fight terrorism and extremism, which is a national interest in the light of the turmoil in the region.

Al-Momani said Jordan respects international law and relations of cooperation and good neighborliness.
