(MENAFN- Gulf Times) Qatar will launch a new Hukoomi portal by the first quarter of next year, revealed an official of ictQATAR, the Ministry of Information and Communications Technology.
Speaking to Gulf Times yesterday on the sidelines of the launch of the Hukoomi Mobile App, Tareq Alemadi, manager, E-Government Portal Department, ictQATAR said that the new Hukoomi portal will be completely different from the existing one.
"Hukoomi 3 will be the Google of Qatar. It will be totally different. It will have more technology. It will much easier for the people to access and get information from the portal."
"The new portal will most probably be available in more languages, including an Indian language. Qatar has a high Indian population and an Indian language is a possibility on the website."
Alemadi said that there will be a new mobile application for the new website. "New features will be added to the app and the present app upgraded accordingly. It will have more information and people can find all the information they need about Qatar," he stated.
The official also disclosed that there are around 500,000 visits to the portal per month. "About 350 people access the Hukoomi website at the same time. The portal has over 50,000 subscribers and the portal attracts visitors from over 180 countries. At present around 76% of Hukoomi's visitors log to the portal through desktops and laptops and only 24% through mobile devices."
Alemadi also said that Hukoomi portal mainly is used for the services of the Ministry of Interior. Many of the municipality services are also accessed through the portal.
Hukoomi was first launched by ictQATAR in 2008. Phase 2 of Hukoomi was
live in 2010 with some 400 services, out of which 150 were e-services. The portal has been improved and enhanced to offer around 900 services at present, out of which 300 are e-services following the official release of the Qatar Digital Government 2020 Strategy in May 2014.
