(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah on sunday underlined the important role of the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA) amid the current circumstances the Arab world is facing.

Sheikh Salman made the statement during a meeting with FANA's Secretary General Farid Ayar, KUNA Board Chairman and Director General Sheikh Mubarak Al-Duaij Al-Sabah, Director General of Qatar News Agency (QNA) Ahmad Al-Buainain, Director of Lebanon's National News Agency (NNA) Laure Sleiman Saab, Deputy Chairman of the Saudi Press Agency (SPA) Ahmad Al-Awadh, and KUNA Vice Chairman for Financial Affairs Abdulhamid Malek.

The visiting Arab delegations are participating in FANA's meeting that kicked off here on Saturday and runs until tomorrow (Monday).

The Minister called on the Federation to promote its role and implement the strategy endorsed by Arab information ministers during their last meeting in Cairo on combating terrorist thinking that runs counter to the concepts of Islam.

The strategy aims to protect youth and generations through an ambitious program based on raising their awareness towards the issues and circumstances the region is facing, he said.

Sheikh Salman underscored the need to face the terrorist action through professional media programs, in collaboration with all official institutions and civil society organizations of each state, stressing Kuwait's support to the federation in achieving its goals.

The conferees said that the federation works on providing training courses to workers of the news agencies, adding this needs hard work and cooperation to upgrade efficiency of the workers.

They emphasized that they take into considerations all recommendations of Arab Ministers of Information in terms of finding a code of ethics, urging all media outlets not to interview terrorists or cover news related to their activities.
