Salmiya Sports Club Reign Supreme


(MENAFN- Arab Times) The Salmiya Sports Club won the Kuwait Karate Federation Junior category trophy for 2014/2015 Championships. The finals and awarding ceremony were held under the auspices of the Crown Prince Sheikh Nawaf Al- Ahmed Al- Jaber Al- Sabah at the Federation's hall in Salmiya Wednesday evening. There was also a posthumous award handed out in memory of Yousef Al Harbi who died many years ago in a car accident. Following the Kuwaiti national anthem, the two teams, slugging it out, Salmiya Sports Club and AlShabab Club, went into action with the Kata, which is mainly for demonstrations then followed it up with the Comitet which is for light contact.

The two teams had competed in the last ten days, leaving the finals to be held Wednesday. The first team, Salmiya Sports Club were awarded their plaque and Silver Cup while the second team, AlShabab Club received a plaque. Another trophy that was awarded was the Yousef AlHarbi Cup which is awarded annually to winners in memory of Yousef Al-Harbi, a Kata champion who died in a car accident sometime ago. Harbi's mother was present during the award ceremony. The contest which was launched earlier this month has seen many competitions in the kata and komitet among young people and provided participating clubs large levels of competitions and helped them to achieve the first places and other positions in the tournament. The organizers delayed the warding ceremony to Wednesday under the auspices of HH the Crown Prince.
