Kuwaiti play wins gold at Free Theater Festival


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Kuwaiti play 'Hawel Marrah Okhra' (Try Again) won the golden award of the 10th Free Theater Festival on Thursday evening.

The silver and bronze medals went to 'Harim Adam' (Adam's women), of Jordan, and Tunisia's 'Marra Marra' (Woman Woman) respectively, the arbitration panel announced.

Hawwas Mohammad, of Algeria, and Hanaa Sha'sho', of Tunisia, were selected as the best actor and best actress respectively while Spain's Federico play won the special committee prize.

Dr. Mubarak Al-Mezel, director of the winning Try Again, dedicated the prize to Kuwaiti leadership, government and people.

The play is the fruit of a joint Arab team; it is written by Saleh Al-Ameri, a UAE playwright , and starring Faisal Al-Omeiri and Samah Warzeh, he said in statements to KUNA.

Dr. Al-Mezel expressed profound joy for the win which came after fierce competition against the prestigious Spanish and Lebanese theaters.

Noting that this was a major debut for him at the festival, he expressed hope for taking part in the coming editions and other events including the coming Gulf theater festival.

At the closing ceremony Jordanian Minister of Culture Lana Mamkagh honored the arbitration panel and gave out the prizes to the winners.
