Two Kuwaiti players' advance to next round in Asian Squash tourney


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Two Kuwaiti Squash players Abdullah Al-Mezayyen and Omar Al-Tamimi advanced to the round of 16th in the 18th Asian Squash Championship for individual men and women competitions.

Leading player Al-Mezyyen beat Chinese Max Lee 3-0, while Al-Tamimi needed to play two matches, one beating Iraqi Hisham Sabeeh 3-0 but lost to South Korea Shaun Joe 1-3.

Kuwaiti Ali Al-Ramzi was knocked out from the tournament after being defeated by Pakistani favorite for the title Danish Atlas Khan.

Another Kuwaiti player, Falah Fayez was also knocked out after a defeat by Indian Harinder Singh 0-3.

After today's events, Al-Tamimi expressed, in a statement to KUNA, his utmost pleasure for the qualification, hoping to continue to perform well in the next round.

Kuwait participated with six players.

Fayez Al-Mutairi, who is secretary of the Kuwait Squash Federation, told KUNA last night that this year's five-day championship has attracted a number of highly-regarded players with advanced ranks internationally from India, and Pakistan.

The championship kicked off earlier today with participation of more than 80 competitors from 15 countries. (end)
