83.7% annual increase in railway revenues during December: CAPMAS


(MENAFN- Daily News Egypt) There has been an 83.7% increase in the revenues of railway transportation during December 2014, reaching EGP 99.4m, according to the Central Agency for Public Mobilization and Statistics (CAPMAS). The figures can be compared to the EGP 54.1m during the corresponding month in 2013.

The revenues increased by 6.5% monthly compared to November 2014, recording EGP 93.3m.

The number of railway passengers increased by 69.8% during December to reach 21.4 million, compared to 12.6 million during same month in 2013. However, the number also increased by 1.9% during November to record 21 million passengers, according to CAPMAS' Monthly Bulletin.

The quantity of goods transported by railway also witnessed a 9.8% increase on an annual basis, reaching 381,700 tonnes during December 2014. This compared to 347,600 tonnes during the same month in 2013, the Monthly Bulletin mentioned.

On a monthly basis, the quantity of goods increased by 14.2% in December 2014 compared to November of the same year where it reached approximately 334,000 tonnes.

Meanwhile, the number of railway passengers in August 2014 reached 15.4 million, representing a 52.5% increase compared to the same period the previous year, according to an October 2014 report issued by the Information and Decision Support Center (IDSC), which is affiliated with the cabinet.
