Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria starts in Kuwait


(MENAFN- Jordan News Agency) The Third International Humanitarian Pledging Conference for Syria opened in Kuwait on Tuesday with the participation of delegations from 78 countries and 40 international organizations.

Jordan's delegation to the conference is led by Prime Minister Abdullah Ensour and comprises Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Imad Fakhoury and Jordan's Ambassador to Kuwait Mohammad Al Fayed.

Emir of Kuwait Sheikh Sabah Al Ahmad Al Jaber Al Sabah announced during the opening that Kuwait will offer $500 million in humanitarian aid to support the Syrian people.

He praised countries hosting Syrian refugees, including Jordan, Lebanon, Turkey, Iraq and Egypt, for the humanitarian and relief aid offered to the refugees.

During the conference, which is being hosted by Kuwait for the third time, the Jordanian delegation will present the Jordan Response Plan (JRP) for the Syrian crisis and discuss ways of funding and implementing it.

The JRP aims to enhance Jordan's capabilities in dealing with the humanitarian crisis and the country's requirements for development as well as the costs that the government bears as a result of the crisis. It also focuses on providing the necessary support to Jordan to enable it to continue providing services to the Syrian refugees and to preserve the development that Jordan is trying to achieve.
