Indian business council honours Emirati businessmen


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dubai - The Indian Business and Professional Council (IBPC) hosted a reception on the occasion of the 66th Republic Day of India at the Oberoi Hotel, Business Bay, on Sunday. The reception was attended by Shaikh Nahyan bin Mubarak Al Nahyan, Minister of Culture, Youth and Community Development, Emirati dignitaries, Indian business leaders and diplomats.

In his key note speech, Shaikh Nahyan praised the strong economic, political and cultural bonds between India and the UAE. He described India as a peace-loving country. He said there are four defining attributes of Indians - courage, strength, intellect and understanding. Shaikh Nahyan was positive that the initiatives taken by the new Prime Minister Narendra Modi would result in a resurgent India.

In his welcome speech, Paras Shahdadpuri, president of IBPC, lauded the centuries-old bonds between India and the UAE. "Both countries enjoy a comprehensive, very close and brotherly relationship," he said. There are approximately 45,000 Indian owned/partnered companies in the UAE, with an estimated investment of over Dh200 billion. In addition to this, Indian expats have invested about Dh60-75 billion in the UAE real estate sector, which brings it to a total of Dh260 billion of investments by the Indian community.

The IBPC gave away the Golden Friendships Awards to Abdul Rehman Saif Al Ghurair, Khalaf Ahmad Al Habtoor, Mirza Al Sayegh and Hisham Al Shirawi for their contribution to the promotion of India-UAE economic and trade ties.

IBPC also distributed the Golden Indian Achievers Award to Micky Jagtiani, M.A. Yusuffali, Feroze Allana, Sunny Varkey and Dr B.R. Shetty. All awards were distributed by Shaikh Nahyan.
