UAE- Modi's estranged wife fails to get details on security provided to her

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Wary and tired of the security personnel protecting her Jashodaben tried details of the official order under which the government has deployed the bodyguards.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s estranged wife Jashodaben’s bid to seek details of security provided to her has come unstuck.

The Mehsana district police in Gujarat before whom she had filed a right-to-information (RTI) application last month have replied that the information sought by her could not be provided to her as her queries related to the Local Intelligence Bureau (LIB) which has been exempted from the RTI Act.

In the letter sent to her home in Unjha town in Mehsana district the deputy superintendent of police who is also designated the public information officer says “The information sought by you is concerning the LIB and as per a notification dated 25/10/2005 of Gujarat Government’s Home Department LIB has been exempted from RTI under the provisions of the Act.”

In the postal address Jashodaben (62) has been called ‘daughter of Chimanlal Modi’ and not the PM’s wife.

Wary and tired of the security personnel protecting her and even citing assassination of Indira Gandhi in her application she had taken the RTI route last month to know details of the official order under which the government has deployed the bodyguards. Jashodaben had also demanded to know — within 48 hours — other facilities she is entitled to by virtue of being the PM’s wife.

“India’s (former) prime minister Indira Gandhi was attacked and killed by her personal bodyguards because of which we are very afraid of our bodyguards. So we want the complete information on the guards protecting us” read the three-page letter.

Living with her brother and leading a spartan quiet existence Jashodaben had said that she wanted an early reply as “it was a matter of life and death for her”.
