Ras Al Khaimah: The Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) Police have arrested three Asian men for their involvement in stealing power cables worth Dh66 million.

According to a police source the trio robbed the electric cables from a construction site of a contracting company here in the RAK city.

The representative of the company lodged a complaint about the theft of high-voltage underground power cables.

“Unidentified people stormed the warehouse of his company which is located on the Shaikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road close to a construction site” he said.

The RAK Police laid a trap and arrested three suspects red-handed with large amounts of stolen power cables that they had hidden in a remote warehouse.

The police source said heavy equipment and machinery was also found in possession of the criminals. “They used them in cutting the electric cables and loading them on heavy vehicles to transport them outside the emirate and sell them later.”

The robbers admitted to their crime during interrogation. “They said they specialised in robbing power cables from all around the country and they also confessed to robbing power cables from various construction sites last year.”

Col Abdullah Ali Mankhas Director of the CID Department at RAK Police said the RAK Police had received several reports on power cables robbery from construction sites over the last few months. “Though all the robbery cases are solved investigations are on to identify and arrest the mastermind of these crimes.”

The gangsters who were found to be residing in the UAE illegally were all referred to the RAK Public Prosecution for legal action.

“All contactors and owners of construction companies are urged to take all precautionary security measures and guard sites with enough security staff at night.”

Col Mankhas said they are planning intensive raids at all construction sites around the emirate in collaboration with the bodies concerned. “The law-enforcement bodies should be alerted of any suspicious practices at construction sites.”

The RAK Police in November this year arrested a gang of 16 members implicated in robbing power cables worth millions from construction sites at different areas of the emirate.
