Oman's Orpic to invest USD3.6b on increasing production


(MENAFN) Oman Oil Refineries and Petroleum Industries Company (Orpic) announced that its production capacity of polypropylene and polyethylene will increase to 1.4 million tons, when its USD3.6 billion worth Liwa plastic project starts production in 2018, Times of Oman reported.

The company said that its installed capacity of polypropylene will increase to 340.000 tons per annum compared to its current 220.000 tons, following the completion of the Sohar refinery improvement project, while its production of polypropylene and polyethylene will grow to 1.4 million tons

Orpic said that the Liwa plastic project has different components in three different locations, which include steam cracker and associated units and a 300-km-long pipeline.

Meanwhile, Orpic said that Oman's petrochemical sector, with its output of 9.5 million tons in 2013, is the third largest in Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), behind Saudi Arabia and Qatar, which have 86.4 million tons and 16.8 million tons of capacity, respectively, while Oman's contribution to the GCC's 66.1 million tons petrochemical exports in 2013, has reached 10.5 percent.
