Bahrain's EWA to establish sustainable energy unit

(MENAFN) Bahrain's Electricity and Water Authority said it has sign an agreement with the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to establish the Bahrain Unit for Sustainable Energy, Gulf Daily news reported.

The Authority said that the unit will be responsible for establishing strategies, policies and legislation as well as promoting initiatives and investment projects that boost energy efficiency, in addition to widening the share of the production of energy from renewable sources.

"There is a considerable potential for undertaking energy efficiency and renewable energy initiatives in Bahrain which will extend the lifetime of oil and gas reserves and enable long-term sustainable development. It will contribute to the worldwide reduction of greenhouse gas emissions and help to slow down climate change, which is particularly important for Bahrain," Bahrain's Minister of Energy said.
