UAE Claim Third Place In 22nd Gulf Cup

(MENAFN- Arab Times) The defending champion UAE National Football Team defeated their counterpart from Oman by 1-0 to claim the third position Tuesday in the 22nd Gulf Cup Soccer Fiesta hosted by Saudi Arabia in Riyadh with Ali Mabkhout scoring the lone goal of the game.

Saudi Arabia and Qatar will slug it out on Wednesday to determine winner of the championship. The UAE lost chance to reclaim the trophy when they were defeated by Saudi Arabia in the semifinal match that ended 3-2 in favor of the host country. UAE played 2-2 draw with Oman when they met in the group two matches before they both advanced to the semifinals.

After drawing with the UAE, Oman nearly took shine off Iraqi National Team but the game also ended 1-1 draw in another group two match. The utmost surprise that upset Kuwaiti National Team happened when Omani National Team walloped the former by 5-0 in what looked like an earthquake. Kuwait needed only a draw to advance into the semifinal of the championship before the unfortunate incident that saw them out of the competition.
