Hyderabad: The Telengana government is all set to forge ahead with its proposed world’s tallest tower near Sanjeevaiah Park besides a row of skyscrapers around the famed Hussain Sagar.

Chief Minister K Chandrasekhar Rao has listed out 40 different locations where skyscrapers would come up in Hyderabad.

The locations were identified for the first phase of the project around the picturesque Hussain Sagar which divides the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

Some of places identified for the purpose are: Buddha Bhavan Ranigunj bus depot Lower Tank Bund Kundanbagh Patigadda Sailing Club Youth Hostel Raghava Sadan Narsing Colony Dilkusha Guest House Greenlands New MLA Quarters Electricity Bhavan Textbook Printing Press Ritz Hotel Burugula Ramakrishna Rao building Expotel and Snow World.

The decision was taken at a marathon five-hour meeting held by KCR as the chief minister is popularly known with minister concerned and top officials of the state on Saturday. The world’s tallest tower at present is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The 828 metres high tower has 163 floors.

Stating that there would be no hurdles on the path of the project since all the lands identified belonged to the government the chief minister also sought to allay the fears expressed by environmentalists that the projects could damage the historic lake and its environs.

“The projects will be undertaken within the environmental norms prescribed by the Supreme Court. The sewage from the towers will not be released into the lake” he said. Directing the officials to take up works for cleaning and beautification of Hussain Sagar on a war-footing KCR also announced Rs one billion for diverting the sewerage lines joining the lake.

“The government will give top priority to protecting the HussainSagar. The cleaning operation and check on inflow of pollutants into the lake should be taken up on a war footing” he told officials.
