Three key players could miss Australia’s oneoff T20 match against Pakistan on Sunday at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium fears their new captain Aaron Finch.

“Glenn Maxwell Cameron Boyce and Pat Cummins may not be included in the team if they play the final of the Champions League T20 in India' Finch toldKhaleej Timesduring a photo shoot at the Conrad Dubai Hotel on Tuesday.

“Any player featuring in the (CL T20) final won’t be playing' he reiterated. Maxwell plays for Kings XI Punjab while Pat Cummins turns up for the Kolkata Knight Riders. Cameron Boyce plays for Hurricanes Hobart and all three are in the semifinals and two of the teams could clash for the title on October 4 in Bangalore.

Finch confessed that the Aussies would miss these key players. “Of course we are going to miss them but the Champions League is such a big tournament so we understand that priority is there' he said.

Finch believes that in T20 cricket one has to be adaptable to any situation. “I am sure we have to be prepared. We have got some players who will step in to fill the gaps” he confidently added.

Finch chuckled when asked if he sees himself as a future Australian captain in ODI format. “Michael Clarke has got a lot more cricket left it is unfortunate that he is going through injuries.”

But the aggressive Aussie batsman was quick to inform that Clarke would be fit for the Test matches. “He is injured only once in 105 Test matches during his career. So that is phenomenal from him” reckons Finch.

“Everyone knows that he has had chronic injuries to his back and hamstring recently but despite that he has done a fantastic job. So I am happy captaining the T20 side at the moment.”

Finch discounted the fears of weather conditions. “I think the guys play a lot around the world the guys play in India Sri Lanka and they have played here before” he said explaining why heat or humidity won’t affect the Australians.

“It is funny that when you start playing you do feel the heat but once your mind gets into the game the heat doesn’t affect much.”

He agreed that the bowlers could face some problems. “Our fast bowlers are very fit so I don’t think it’s going to have any affect.”

On the prospect of playing Pakistan who are without their trump card – Saeed Ajmal Finch thinks that the hosts would find someone to step into his shoes” reckons Finch.

“Along with Rangana Herath Saeed Ajmal was probably the most consistent performer in the world cricket in the last three years in all three formats he said in admiration of the Pakistani spinner who was recently banned by the ICC for chucking.

“I think that’s a huge loss for Pakistan and it is unfortunate when that happens to a side” he said about Ajmal missing the series in the UAE.

He added that whoever comes forward to take Ajmal’s place would be well equipped to do well. “I am not sure who that is going to be.”

At the same time the Australian captain is confident that his batsmen would confidently tackle Ajmal’s replacement. “The guys are prepared against whoever. Abdul Rehman is a quality bowler but we will be on top” confident Finch promised.

Finch who hasn’t played Tests stresses that his style suits the shorter format.

“It (T20) suits my style of cricket it is quite fast” he said promising that he would quite aggressive as the Australian captain.

The strongly built Austrlian T20 captain bats fearlessly and is known for taking risks. “You have to be willing to take risks in this format of the game some time it may come off right some time you may look fool” concedes the amiable right-handed batman.

Finch has taken over T20 captaincy but is already eyeing one title – T20 World Cup — that has eluded the Australians so far.

“We desperately want to win that’s the only one missing from the Cricket Australia cabinet” he says.

And for that he is prepared to take the risk.
