(MENAFN - Arab News) CONSULTRANS has been chosen by the Saudi Railways Organization (SRO) to carry out the feasibility study of the high-speed railway line between Riyadh and Dammam for a total budget of SR6.6 million and with a duration of 10 months.
The overall objective of the study is to evaluate the feasibility of the high-speed railway linking Riyadh to Dammam (480 km) as well as Hofuf based on conducting a market research demand analysis definition of best alignment definition of the most suitable systems and rolling stock estimation of financial cost for the entire project and advisement on the most appropriate procurement approach for future contracts for this project.
The contract falls within the development plans adopted by the SRO to reduce the current travel time between Riyadh and Dammam from four and a half hours to less than three hours which is included within the current Santra Plan. This is realized by increasing the average speed of 180 km/h from the current trains to up to 300 km/h when using high-speed trains.
In the bidding process French German and American companies such as Louis Berger Egis DB International and AECOM participated among others.
