China investigates Windows browser, media player on antitrust


(MENAFN) China's antitrust investigation is targeting Microsoft's Windows web browser and media player, raises the prospect of China revisiting the software bundling issue, The Peninsula Qatar reported.

China's Administration for Industry and Commerce suspects Microsoft of not being fully honest with information about its Windows and Office sales, but the company said it is ready to cooperate with ongoing investigations.

As Windows became the world's dominant operating system, the issue of how Microsoft bundled its web browser and media player became the focus of respective antitrust cases brought by US and EU authorities.

China focuses on two products previously sued elsewhere appears to form the basis of its investigation, but the probe could extend beyond the media player and browser bundling issue.
