Hamas says ceasefire agreement reached with Israel


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The Palestinian movement Hamas announced Monday that a ceasefire agreement was reached with Israel in Cairo to end a seven-week Israeli war on Gaza Strip.

"An agreement was reached and we wait for the official announcement in Cairo later," Hamas Spokesman Sami Abu Zuhri said in a press statement.

Abu Zuhri did not elaborate on the details of the agreement.

Head of the Palestinian delegation to Cairo-hosted ceasefire negotiations confirmed the news, stating that the Egyptian shuttle diplomacy has succeeded in brokering the deal with Israel.

No official Israeli announcement or comment on the issue so far.

If confirmed the deal with bring to halt the deadly seven-week confrontation which claimed the lives of over 2,138 Palestinians and injured over 10,870 and displaced tens of thousands others. At least 68 Israelis were also killed in the conflict.

At least seven Palestinians were killed in the Israeli airstrikes on several civilian targets in Gaza Strip Monday.
