(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Jordan's Lower House of Parliament endorsed Sunday evening by majority proposed amendments to the constitution.
A total 118 lawmakers voted in favour of the amendments, eight against and three abstained.
By such amendments, King Abdullah II has sole authority to appoint the chairman of the army's Joint Chiefs-of-Staff and the General Intelligence Department director.
They also expand the jurisdiction of setting up an Independent Elections Commission (IEC) to manage parliamentary and municipal elections, and any other elections in the country assigned by the government.
According to Article Two of the amendments, the mission of the armed forces is confined only to defending the country.
