Israel says it is being targeted with fresh rocket attacks

(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) A rocket fired by Palestinian gunners stationed in Gaza Tuesday hit Ashdod city, central Israel, a spokesman for Israeli Army said in a statement, indicating that its explosion caused no losses.

The spokesman told Israel Radio Tuesday evening that other rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip on areas in Al-Naqab (Negev) without causing any casualties.

Israel said that it was attacked by several missiles; however none of Palestinian factions claimed responsibility for such attacks. Sami Abu Zuhri, a spokesman for Hamas, the dominant movement in the Gaza Strip, said it had no knowledge of any rockets being fired.

Meanwhile, Israel's warplanes launched several air raids on the war-ravaged strip. Also its artillery fired shells on homes and agricultural lands of residents in central Gaza and bombarded agricultural lands in Khan Younis and Al-Zayton, south of Gaza, causing casualties. Palestinian medical sources said three citizens, who were transferred to a nearby hospital in Deir Al-Balah for treatment, were injured due to Israeli attacks.

The Palestinian Health Ministry put the death toll of the war on Gaza at 2,016 and said most of them were civilians. Israel said it killed hundreds of gunmen in the fighting.
