Friends CC and GM Cricket Club chalked out comfortable wins to advance to the semi-finals of the inaugural Al Faraa Ramadan T20 cricket tournament being held at the Al Ain Sportsplex ground under the recognition of the Al Ain Cricket Council.
In the quarter-final matches Friends CC defeated Emistate by four wickets while GM CC coasted to a six-wicket victory over X Eleven.
Emistate who opted to bat first on winning the toss put up a reasonable total of 131 runs for seven wickets. Sajid scored 39 off 34 balls including two fours while Shoukath contributed with an unbeaten 21 off 18 balls. Imran and Adnan bagged two wickets each for Friends.
In reply Friends maintained the required run-rate without much difficulty as they scored 133 for six wickets with 1.1 overs and four wickets to spare. Man of the match Ijaz set the stage with a well compiled 56 off 40 balls containing five boundaries and two sixes.
In the other quarter-finals miserly four-over spells by Qasim (2 for 14) and Faisal (2 for 15) restricted X Eleven to 110 runs. Arshad who scored 47 off 28 balls and Adnan with 32 off 25 balls were the only X Elven batsmen to show some defiance.
In reply GM’s in form A Rahman stoked his way to an unbeaten 40 off 23 balls to help his team score 114 in just 16 overs. Rahman laced his innings with six boundaries and a six while Qasim backed his bowling performance by stroking 28 runs off 25 balls. Qasim hit four boundaries and was rightly picked the man of the match.
