Apple profits surge USD7.7b in Q2

(MENAFN) Apple announced posting a jump in its quarterly profits with strong demand for iPhones, especially in the Chinese market where the firm's revenue surged, AFP reported.

The California-based company posted a profit of USD7.7 billion, while revenue hit USD37.4 billion in the April-June period of 2014, an increase of 11.6 percent over a year ago.

Apple said it sold 35.2 million iPhones in the second quarter of 2014, a rise of nearly 13 percent from the same period a year earlier.

In a disappointment, Apple said iPad sales fell 9.2 percent from a year ago to 12.27 million, a figure weaker than most analysts had expected.

"Our June quarter revenue was fueled by strong sales of iPhone and Mac and growth of revenue from Apple ecosystem, driving our highest growth rate in seven quarters," Apple chief executive said.
