(MENAFN - Arab News) JEDDAH: Red Tag Jamjoom Pharma and Fireberks won titles in the Friday Morning Division that brought a successful end to the OFBL 5th Conference recently at the Timeout Sports Academy gymnasium on Television St. Ghulail District on the outskirts of Jeddah.
Red Tag with an impressive 83 percent free-throw shooting performance brought down Yummy Yummy 97-88 to complete a sweep of their best-of-three finals in the Group A Non-Rated Division.
It was a seesaw battle in the first half. But Red Tag went on a 12-5 run orchestrated by their key players led by to build a 62-53 lead.
Yummy Yummy tried to close the gap to 65-63 but Red Tag closed the period up by 13 points at 64-51.
It was all Red Tag from there and Yummy could only come within six points in the dying seconds of the game. With Yummy using a quick foul after a quick shot scheme Red Tag Team stood its ground and was near flawlesss from the free throw line converting 13 points out of 16 attempts in the last 3 minutes of the game to pull out the win.
Geniza and Mendoza had standout performances for Red Tag with 25 and 30 points respectively.
Sipat also had a good game despite the tough enemy defense applied to him to finish with 19 points while Chua added 17 points.
Cervantes spearheaded the losing team with 25 points followed by Romero 18 points Faurillo 15 Batac 12 and Makuha and Estinor 9 apiece.
Geniza was named MVP. The mythical five selection players were Mendoza and Makuha (Best Guards) Arboleda and Batac (Best Forwards) and Chua (Best Center). Ruel Sarangay in Best Coach.
In the Rated C division Jamjoom swept the championship series with Toyota by winning the second game 81-72.
Down by 3 points at the end of the first quarter Jamjoom launched a second quarter run ignited by the ever reliable Aulencia who scored 28 points including 2 3-pointers in the period as they outscored Toyota 27-9 to close the first half at 41-34.
From 60-57 at the end of the third period Jamjoom stretched its lead to double digits in the middle of the 4th quarter and decided to slow down in offense using the clock while playing tough on defense to protect its lead till the conclusion of the game.
Abulencia had another outstanding game to topscore for the champion team with 29 points. Gemino contributed 18 points Rosero added 11 points Abella 8 points and Temson and Bustamante 7 points each.
Dorado led Toyota with 22 points followed by Arana with 15 points Llamado 13 points and Decosto 6 points.
Abulencia went on to claim MVP honors. Named to the mythical five were Gemino and Llamado (Best Guards) Bustamente and Josue (Best Forwards) and Abella (Best Center).
Fireberks won the Group A Division at the expense of Jeddah Phoenix.
Fireberks led the Phoenix in each of the 4 quarters playing solid basketball all throughout the match to clinch the championship crown.
The trio of Giducos Patrick Reyes and Oliver Reyes had 21 20 and 19 to take charge at Fireberks founded by Sheridon Lagon who is set to leave the Kingdom for good after recovering from a mild stroke.
They were helped out by Aledio who had 14 points Versosa 12 and Fajardo 8 points. The losing team was carried by Montano dela Cruz who had 14 points Eusebio 12 Reyes 11 and Tondo 10 points.
