Qatar- LuLu Hypermarket Group achieves HACCP


(MENAFN- The Peninsula) Lulu Hypermarket Group has successfully achieved certification to the HACCP Standard for their Qatar Region. Lulu Hypermarket chain is the first retail chain to get the prestigious international certification for HACCP from Quality Austria, in Qatar



The certificate was handed over to Mohamed Althaf, Group Director of Lulu Hypermarket chain by Sunil Zachariah, General Manager for Quality Austria for Middle East operations at Lulu Hypermarket, Al-Gharrafa. The assessment and certification of Lulu was done by Quality Austria.



On the occasion of this certificate presentation, Mohamed Althaf said, "Gaining HACCP certification demonstrates our commitment to production and distribution of safe food products. This certification confirms our efforts to provide safe products to our consumers in Qatar and in other regions.



Sunil Zachariah said, "Successful certification in Hazard Analysis and Critical Control Points Certification is an important step for Lulu Hypermarket Group as an organisation. Quality Austria acts as a strong partner to help Lulu Hypermarkets achieve these goals."



The HACCP is a systematic approach that is used to identify microbiological, chemical and physical hazards even during the food production and its correction by appropriate measures.



The origins of the HACCP concept can be found in 1959 in a project that implemented by the NASA along with the Pillsbury Company in the United States. At that time the goal was to produce space-qualified foods where with hundred percent certainty the risk of biological, chemical and physical hazards could be excluded. According to the publication jointly released by the WHO and FAO, and especially since existence, in this regard legal requirements forms the basis of all HACCP food safety systems
