(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Egyptian scholar dr abdelkafy speaks about agenda for a true muslim on second day of the quran award programme

With 110 out of the 6236 verses of the holy quran are only about worship the faithful need to have certain characteristics to be eligible for the good tidings promised for true believers.

dr abdelkafy addressing the audience on the second day of the dubai international holy quran award programme on monday. — supplied photoThis was affirmed by popular egyptian scholar dr sheikh omar abdelkafy on the second day of the cultural programme of the dubai international holy quran award which started on monday.Dr abdelkafy said almighty allah has called on the believers in 86 verses all starting with ‘o believers…’ “these are either an order or a warning against a prohibition” he said calling for ambitious work for the service of islam. he said the theme of his lecture was cited from verse 17/9: ‘indeed this quran guides to that which is most suitable and gives good tidings to the believers who do righteous deeds that they will have a great reward.’ “actually this is an agenda for a true muslim who is not only required to believe but also to do good deeds — words and action.”He said a muslim should read and respond to the quran as if it was revealed to him. “a true believer should show full submission to god’s order or prohibition because it is eventually in his interest rather than almighty allah who is never affected by humans’ good deeds or evils.”Advising the memorisation of three to five verses per day dr abdelkafy said a faithful has to carefully listen and mull over each and every word in the holy quran to first understand and diligently observe it. “to have faith in allah without submissively following his orders and behaving well means an incomplete belief or one would be just dreaming and making fun of himself.”No matter what man does all his actions will turn futile if not purely done for only god’s sake he warned. “lacking sincerity or doing something good just to be praised by people spoils any deed regardless of how big it is.”The blessed companions of prophet muhammad (peace be upon him) used to devotedly compete in doing good deeds (without boasting) and as sincerely as possible dr abdelkafy said noting that the same applies to fasting. no one but allah knows if one is truly fasting or not.“abu bakr al siddique god bless him used to help an old woman in her nineties while he was in power without telling anyone until discovered by omar ibn al khattab who tried to compete with him in doing good deeds but always failed.”When a housewife seeks god’s satisfaction in all the regular housework allah counts all her routine work as a sort of worship for which she will be rewarded in this life and the hereafter he affirmed. “likewise a husband will be compensated for being patient to his disobedient wife.”Dr abdelkafy advised the audience to act with people like a lake that can stand a handful of salt — their evils — rather than a small glass that cannot. “ibn masood a companion of the prophet muhammad (peace be upon him) pardoned a thief who stole his shoes and prayed that he would never do it again mercifully adding that maybe the thief was in need of the shoes” he said urging the faithful to be a role model for others before advising them.In his lecture on day three (today) of the cultural programe of the award popular iraqi scholar prof dr hameed al nuaimi will talk about the universe in the holy quran as well as some miraculous facts therein.Also dr larbi kechat from algeria will enlighten the audience about how to seek heavenly guidance based on the holy quran. all lectures are held at the dubai chamber of commerce and industry at 10.30pm after the taraweeh prayers.Ahmedshaabankhaleejtimes.com
