Qatar- ALF opens second prisoner rehabilitation home in Chicago

(MENAFN- The Peninsula) AlFaisal Without Borders Foundation (ALF), the Chicago Community Trust (CCT) and the city's Department of Housing and Economic Development, inaugurated the second ex-prisoner rehabilitation home in Chicago's South Side, a notoriously tough area in the city.

This marked the second phase of the Inner City Muslim Action Network Green ReEntry civil initiative in Chicago.

ALF supported, with matched funding from the city, the prisoner rehabilitation programme, which aims at re-integrating Muslim ex-convicts into their communities.

The project seeks to convert foreclosed and vandalised properties into vibrant environmentally sound transition housing for formerly incarcerated individuals and provide training to lead to sustainable employment.

Abdullatif Ali Al Yafei, ALF General Manager, and Andy Mooney, the city's Department of Planning Commissioner, inaugurated the project in the presence of Ali Talal Ma're, Executive Director, ALF Foundation, Counsellor Ahmed Turki Alsubaie, Deputy Chief of Qatar's Diplomatic Mission in the US, Rami Nashashibi, IMAN's Executive Director, representatives of government bodies and civil society institutions from the district, and Chicago's high-profile personalities

Al Yafei said: "The second rehabilitation home will offer support needed to help recipients hold down jobs and give them social and financial security.

The project is in line with ALF's objectives to rehabilitate the needy and enable them to earn enough through finding proper jobs, to support their families and communities."

ALF's other projects were also showcased. "Today, the second rehabilitation centre crowns efforts of ALF and our partners. We are glad to see the centre's positive impact exceeding all expectations and giving the wider community security and stability.

"These centres thrive through cooperation and consolidation they generate to benefit the whole community. The rehabilitated are given a second chance, through training in basic job skills, green building technology and construction to end up protecting the community and supporting its stability

"The programme has been made possible through the support and endorsement of local community leaders and governmental bodies," said Ma're
