(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) The two students were arrested on new years day with a large quantity of the mind-altering substance which they allegedly intended to sell.

two students were allegedly caught by the anti-narcotics officers in possession of 42600 tramadol pills the court of first instance heard on monday.

the two students including an iranian i.m. 20 and an emirati h.r. 24 were arrested on new year’s day with a large quantity of the mind-altering substance which they allegedly intended to sell.

a third accomplice has been referred to the juvenile court.

while i.m. has been charged with possession of 23800 tramadol pills for trafficking h.r. has been accused of possessing 18800 tramadol tablets for peddling.

i.m. is accused of letting the juvenile accomplice drive his car even though he did not have a driving license. both i.m. and h.r. who are currently in detention are also charged with taking tramadol and other narcotics.

an anti-narcotics corporal said they raided i.m.’s car while he was with the teen accomplice in al warqa 1. the latter was behind the wheel. “we were tipped off that i.m. was in possession of drugs. both of them tried to run away but we restrained them. the teen looked as if he was under the influence of some substance. a bag containing a large quantity of tramadol was found in the back seat behind the driver.

“i.m. told us that his brother who was convicted in a case in sharjah told him to get in touch with an iranian man (not on trial). i.m. took the teen along with him when he brought the drugs from ras al khaimah to al warqa and was to collect dh3000 for the job.”

the police then instructed i.m. to contact the iranian man so they could arrest the accomplices who would pick-up the drugs from al warqa on january 2.

“i.m. left the narcotics in a bag outside a supermarket. a man (h.r.) was seen stepping off a car while talking on his mobile phone. he was looking around suspiciously” the corporal said.

as h.r. picked up the bag of drugs his companion managed to speed away after spotting the police officers watching from a distance. the police officers apprehended h.r. as he dropped the bag and tried to run away.

h.r. told the police that he collected the bag following a phone call made by the iranian man to his companion. “i was talking with my companion on the phone as i was about to pick up the drugs. he told me to drop it and flee the scene because he spotted the police.”
