Armed Group Kills Three People in Benghazi Security Post Attack


(MENAFN- Qatar News Agency) Nghazi june 22 (qna) - an unidentified group of armed men killed three people and injured 15 others in an attack on a security post at the seaport here in benghazi in eastern libya.

armed insurgents attacked security personnel deployed at the benghazi port who were burning hashish seized at the port the libyan news agency said.

the libyan elite army unit al saiqa battalion 21 and other security personnel entered the benghazi port and secured the area from insurgents and drug dealers after clashes last night a military source said.

according to libya herald an independent online daily the consignment of drugs arrived thursday in benghazi from malta.

the chief of port security ali elumami told the daily "the concealed drugs came in refrigerated containers aboard the liberian-flagged container ship 'jaguar'. it arrived from malta at 7pm on thursday." officers supervising unloading of the two containers discovered saturday morning hashish hidden in wooden crates loaded with fruit the report said.

benghazi port director mohammed said anti-drugs enforcement agency in co-opeartion with security personnel confiscated around six tons of hashish.
