the superbrands citation acknowledges borders of al maya group as a household name in the uae. borders opened its first store in 2006 and since then has revolutionised the book retail in the middle east and has soon become a place for knowledge and entertainment in the uae and gulf region offering a wide range of books stationary toys and games as well as a children story-telling section and seating area for reading.

borders has brought in renowned international authors such a john gray (men are from mars and women are from venus) jack cannfield (chicken soup series) and doug lipp (disney u) amongst many others. from the middle east region they have had ceos ranging from khalaf al habtoor to politicians such as dr shashi tharoor and also individuals from the indian army such a general j.j. singh whose book was launched by the indian ambassador in dubai.
