Gujarat CM cancels draw for houses after protests

(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Following complaints of irregularities and protests by the opposition congress gujarat chief minister anandi patel has cancelled the allotment of the gujarat housing boards 8000-odd affordable houses through a computerised draw of lots.

the decision was taken soon after the executing agency admitted that there was “indeed a software glitch” that had led to errors in the random selection of applications for allotment.

patel’s decision came even as public anger over alleged irregularities in the computerised draw had been growing and the congress threatened to launch statewide protests. a draw of lots was held for 8040 houses that were to be built for low and middle-income groups by the gujarat housing board across the state including 2500 in ahmedabad as also in rajkot surat and vadodara.

the chief minister herself had conducted a computerised draw in rajkot last sunday and live telecast of the draw event was relayed in other cities where thousands of applicants had gathered.

after the results many aspirants whose names were not selected staged protests and demanded to cancel the draw by claiming mass irregularities by the gujarat housing board in the process.

the gujarat congress had raised the issue and announced to stage statewide protests.
