88 killed in Dubai traffic accidents


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) There were 1118 traffic accidents altogether resulting in 90 serious injuries besides the deaths.

car collisions topped the list accounting for 901 accidents and claiming 62 lives.

the second highest number of accidents was caused by vehicles hitting other road users resulting in 137 accidents in which 18 people were killed.

there were 68 cases of cars turning turtle and causing five deaths. other causes for accidents were negligence overspeeding jumping signals and even falling asleep while driving.

a majority of the accidents were caused by young drivers.

drivers aged between 31 and 40 caused 177 accidents and 22 deaths while teenagers aged between 14 and 17 caused seven accidents and the death of one person.

major-general mohammed saif al zafin assistant commander-in-chief of dubai police for operation affairs said the police will take necessary action to reduce traffic accidents and other traffic problems which usually peak during ramadan. the holy month sees traffic jams during peak hours while at night youths unleash chaos.

police patrols will be deployed on highways during ramadan to deal with emergencies.
