UAE- Juan Ramon Carrasco: New coach for Bani Yas

bani yas have gone for another uruguayan. after narrowing down on a south american and european the club appointed have juan ramon carrasco as their coach. carrasco has been handed a one-year contract and will lead the squad in the new season.

the 57-year-old replaces iraqi adnan hamad who was axed at the end of the season after a six-month spell. hamad had taken over from uruguayan jorge da silva in february following back-to-back losses to al wahda and al nasr in the arabian gulf league. under hamad the sky blues won just two of the 10 games and lost seven.

as a player carrasco made 19 appearances for uruguay. he also coached the uruguay national team in the 2003-2004 season.

carrasco has coached uruguayan clubs rocha fenix river plate and nacional. he has also coached ecuadorian club emelec and brazil’s atletico paranaense. his last job before coming here was with uruguayan club danubio. carrasco began coaching in 2000. this will be his first stint in the region.

carrasco began his playing career with nacional in 1973 and has played for major uruguayan clubs as well as argentina’s river plate and brazilian heavyweights sao paulo. he ended his career as a player-manager with rocha in the 2000-01 season.

he is probably one of the players to have made the most appearances with different clubs in uruguay.

hammadi to stay at al ahli

striker ismail al hammadi has said that he will remain at al ahli despite him being linked with a move to al jazira. al jazira made a formal offer for the services of the 25-year-old but the player said that he wants to stay with the club with whom he began his career. the emirati also reinforced his commitment as a one-club man and added that he wanted to retire at al ahli.

ismail al hammadi still has a three-year contract with al ahli.

“i want to continue with al ahli as long as possible. i’m proud to wear the al ahli jersey where i began my career. they have been like a family. my relationship with the red knights is forever and i would like to end my career at al ahli. i wouldn’t want to wear any other club jersey” ismail al hammadi said.

“i’m happy with what i have achieved at al ahli. i want to compete for more silverware and bring happiness to the fans” he added.

regarding the al jazira offer the uae national team striker said: “there are no negotiations between me and any other club i have a contract with al ahli for three more seasons.

ismail al hammadi was adjudged the emirati player of the year at the arabian gulf league awards.

myung-joo replaces brosque

al ain have signed south korean international lee myung-joo as a replacement for australian alex brosque for the asian player slot.

the 24-year-old joins the record 11-time uae league champions from south korean club pohang steelers. lee myung-joo who rose through the junior ranks at pohang steelers had made 80 appearances with 17 goals after he graduated to the first team in 2012. he has made nine appearances for the south korean national team.
