bhoomi performed in dubai recently so we caught up with her for a quick chat.

how did it feel to be performing in dubai?

it felt great. i have been performing in dubai at regular intervals. the city always provides a wonderful audience with a high party spirit which always inspires us to perform.

how do you feel the audiences are here compared to back home?

an indian audience will be an indian audience whether in india or dubai. the patience level of the audience and their willingness to accept new sounds such as retro fusion or semi classical songs is amazing. in short the dubai audiences are still attached to the roots of indian music. you can tell that especially when i sing sufi tracks. people literally roll and sway with joy. the musicians on stage love that.

can you describe your journey since indian idol?

the journey has been very interesting and unexpected with lots of twist and turns which has taught me to work hard. i have increased my capacity to perform and it has allowed me to explore my hidden talents such as writing and acting. my main goal in life has been always to become a good musician. many incidents have made me feel proud and many have been wonderful life experiences. i have met many of my heroes from the world of music and sang on film. i sang the title track for the television film dekha ek khwaab. i have also acted for the television show comedy circus ke tansen. i am very pleased to have performed at various award nights too.

what are you currently working on?

right now i am just focusing on my music. i have to practise every day to maintain my vocal strength and want to perform as often as possible.

what has been the highlight for you since entering showbiz? are there any drawbacks?

there have been ups and downs on the way but they have helped me grow up a lot. one down turned into an up. a while ago i was asked to sing for the movie players. they needed me straight away but unfortunately i was not in mumbai so i missed the opportunity. that made me decide to move to mumbai permanently to be close to work and i have loved it.

do you have any plans to enter movies or tv permanently?

i have been offered a couple of reality shows like khatron k khiladi 2014 but my parents didn’t believe i should do it. i always listen to their advice. i will see what happens but right now i only wish to focus on my voice. that’s the most important part of my career.

do you have a message for your dubai fans?

i would just like to thank everyone for their blessings and continued support. i am so encouraged to carry on and make music by the support i receive. it is a pleasure to do the job i do because of that.
