dr shaikh majid bin saeed al nuaimi chairman of the ajman ruler’s court has honoured the winners of the fourth edition of the dar al ber quran and sunnah award which concluded recently.

the competition saw an unprecedented participation of 877 students from 35 schools here. only 164 of them were up to the standard and secured top positions in the dh250000 award — all gifted by dubai government-run dar al ber society (dabs).

khalid al khaja director-general of dabs ajman expressed gratitude to the uae leadership for encouraging the young to learn the quran and sunnah. “these competitions help effectively bring young children on moderation and rationality and shield them against fanatic ideologies and religious deviation.”

as many as 227 boys competed in the quran category whereas 186 vie for the top honours in the hadith category he added. “the four-day contest judged by three men and four women arbitrators from the holy quran and sunnah establishment in sharjah also saw 263 girls competing in the quran category and 201 in the hadith section.”

the financial rewards have significantly jumped from dh30000 in the first edition to dh90000 in the second dh160000 in the third and dh250000 now he said. “the prize money ranged from dh500 to dh3000 according to performance memorisation and recitation.”

dr sheikh aziz bin farhan al anzi director of the saudi dawa and irshad (preaching and guidance) centre dubai said it is of great importance to teach children the quran and sunnah. “these two indispensable sacred pillars do have a fruitful impact on children’s ethics and all members of the society.”

the contest is aimed to prepare a new generation attached to the holy quran and sunnah he added. ‘we also want them to learn fair competition and best use their free time for their benefit in life and hereafter.”
