Kuwait- FM: His Highness Premier's Beijing visit reflects distinguished ties


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Visiting Kuwait First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah said here on Wednesday the ongoing visit by His Highness the Prime Minister Sheikh Jaber Al-Mubarak Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to China reflects distinguished relations between both countries. Speaking to KUNA, Sheikh Sabah Khaled quoted the Chinese side as stressing interest in security and stability in Kuwait and the entire region and voicing willingness to promote and deepen bilateral relations. "We are willing to have distinguished relations with China and we won't forget its position during the occupation of Kuwait and even its following-up on outstanding issues in the UN Security Council," he said. The Kuwaiti delegation exchanged views with the Chinese side on several regional issues, mainly Iran's nuclear dossier, Palestine, Syria, Yemen and Libya. They also discussed the recent presidential election in Egypt as part of the country's roadmap, reiterating support for its security and stability, he added. He noted that they had considered trade cooperation between China and the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states. His Highness the Prime Minister's tour coincides with the Arab-Chinese Forum which will begin on Thursday, he said, adding that Sheikh Jaber will address the event. The Kuwaiti minister hoped that two-way trade exchange would be boosted by means of broadening the scope of bilateral cooperation in various fields, noting that trade exchange hit USD 12 billion last year. Arab-Chinese trade exchange exceeded USD 238 billion last year, he concluded.
