(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) Dubai?s auto parts trade has grown eight per cent hitting dh40 billion in 2013 compared to dh37 billion in the previous year dubai customs has revealed.
ahmed abdul salam kazim director of strategy and corporate excellence at dubai customs on monday said the leap includes a jump of four per cent in imports which amounted to dh23 billion. “exports and re-exports have also boosted by 13 per cent to dh17 billion” he added.
the statistics released in parallel with automechanika dubai 2014 which starts today and will run until thursday showed that dubai plays a pivotal role in the automotive spare parts trade.
“dubai acts as an effective liaison between asian and european manufacturing countries and the consuming markets in the region” kazim said.
he added that four major dubai trading partners claimed 61 per cent of total imports with dh14 billion worth of products. “japan was the top destination from which dubai’s car parts originated claiming dh5.7 billion of the market.” south korea followed with dh3.2 billion worth of imports.
“china was the third most-important import source valued at dh2.8 billion while germany was fourth with dh2.3 billion.”
surrounding countries top the list of major export and re-export partners with saudi arabia securing the largest share with dh2.14 billion. “iraq was second with dh1.1 billion followed by afghanistan with dh836 million and oman came fourth with dh560 million.”
kazim said these nations represented together 27 per cent of the export and re-export market with a total share of dh4.6 billion.
“dubai customs has further enhanced the automotive spare parts trade through an array of first-rate customs facilitations and services provided to traders in this sector enabling them to cater to market needs without delay thanks to streamlined and speedy clearance procedures.”
he said dubai customs is committed to achieving the highest levels of cooperation and coordination with public and private sector stakeholders in a bid to take the efficiency of delivered services to the next level.
“ahead of expo 2020 such service improvements will be decisive in better positioning dubai on the ever-changing global trade landscape.”
