Speeding claims one more in Ras Al Khaimah


(MENAFN- Khaleej Times) A 25-year-old emirati man died on the spot after his car rammed into a lamp post in the manaei area of ras al khaimah city late on wednesday evening.

col ahmed eissa chief of the manaei police station said the accident was due to speeding. the man was alone in the car.

he was driving at a high speed when he lost control of the steering wheel and the car veered off the road. it then collided with a lamp post and turned over several times. the driver received serious injuries and haemorrhaged to death.

the central operations room alerted of the mishap rushed police patrol and rescue teams to the crash site but the young man had succumbed to his injuries by the time they arrived. investigations have begun to probe the reasons behind the accident.

col eissa urged all motorists particularly young drivers to abide by the speed limit on city roads as well as highways.

“all motorists should focus on the road” he said. “they should not be distracted while driving. it will safeguard both their lives as well as the lives of other road users.”

reckless driving and racing are some of the major reasons for car accidents.

official statistics show that emirati motorists were responsible for nearly 55 per cent of the traffic accidents reported in this northern emirate last year. most of these mishaps were due to speeding and racing.

as per the federal traffic law any motorist involved in racing or exceeding the 60km/ph speed limit will be fined dh1000 and be given 12 black points. in addition the vehicle will be impounded for 30 days.

on tuesday another emirati man succumbed to injuries after the car he was travelling in swerved off the road apparently due to speeding and fell down in the dafta.
