Kuwaiti FM touts His Highness the Amir's expectant visit to Iran


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) The upcoming visit of His Highness the Kuwaiti Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Sabah to Iran in the aftermath of signing of a temporary agreement with the group of 3+3 regarding its nuclear program is quite important in its timing, said Kuwait's First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Khaled Al-Sabah on Wednesday. In an interview today with German TV network Deutsche Welle (DW), to be aired tomorrow, the Kuwaiti official hoped that a final agreement with Iran on its nuclear program would be realized by potentially the end of June. He said that His Highness the Amir's visit will come at a time when the Iranian president Dr. Hassan Rouhani has given positive signs to Gulf states and the rest of the world as to Iran's new foreign policy approach. The Kuwaiti foreign minister further indicated Kuwait's heedfulness to develop its ties with Iran to the best possible levels in the overall quest to ratchet down tension in the Gulf region for the benefit of everyone. In the interview, he touched on a number of regional issues such as the presidential elections in Egypt, the crisis in Syria and the need for a political solution there, inter-Gulf relations especially the Riyadh Document where GCC foreign ministers agreed, during a meeting in the Saudi capital on April 17, to implement the Riyadh Document, based on the GCC Charter. The document stipulates the adoption of mechanisms that would ensure that foreign and security policies of each country do not jeopardize that of other member states. The Kuwaiti official moreover discussed with DW the extent of the Kuwaiti-Iraqi relations. He aslo discussed in his interview with the German TV network the situation in Libya, saying that an Arab foreign ministers' meeting next week in Ageria will probe deeply all its implications.
