(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Kuwait Embassy in Austria delivered a financial contribution worth of EUR 250,000 to the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) amid efforts to help support its activities, precisely for monitoring and verifying Iran's nuclear activities.
The contribution comes under the joint action plan reached on November 24, 2013 among the P5+1 group and Tehran.
Kuwait's Ambassador to Austria and Permanent Representative to International Organizations Sadeq Marafi said, in a statement to KUNA, that he met with IAEA Director General Yukiya Amano last night and delivered the sum that comes in response to a call issued by the agency to establish a special budget for monitoring Iran's activities, which is worth EUR 5.5 million in total.
The Ambassador added that Kuwait made this voluntary contribution due to its belief in IAEA's role in controlling and inspecting countries that have nuclear facilities and to promote peaceful uses of nuclear energy and arms control.
The Ambassador also noted that he also delivered an invitation to IAEA chief from First Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Sabah Al-Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah to visit Kuwait and discuss joint cooperation between Kuwait and the Agency.
Regarding other issues discussed in the meeting, Ambassador Marafi said that topics on ways to promote and support cooperation between the Agency and the State of Kuwait in all fields were highlighted, including work related to the Agency, among them developments regarding Iran's nuclear program.
Amano expressed his utmost appreciation to Kuwait's contribution and welcomed the invitation to Kuwait, the Ambassador noted.
Last week, negotiations between Tehran and the six powers ended without announcing details of any agreement following consultations between Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif, EU foreign policy chief Catherine Ashton and US Undersecretary of State for Political Affairs Wendy Sherman over the draft final agreement.
