(MENAFN - The Peninsula) Al Sadd's Algerian midfielder/defender Nadir Belhadj was adjudged the best player even as Al Ahli walked away with most of the honours at the Qatar Football Association's end-of-season awards at the Qatar National Convention Centre on Saturday.

"Thank you very much this is fantastic. I would like to thank all the people who voted for me and my teammates who of course helped me achieve this award," Belhadj said.

"I would also like to thank the fans and my wife," he added.

Al Sailiya's Tunisian coach Sami Trabelsi won the best coach award while the club also clinched the honours for the best management.

Al Ahli's Dioko Kaluyituka was assured of the golden boot award, which has been named after Qatar's ace former player Mansour Muftah, after netting 22 goals in the Qatar Stars League.

The men in green had more to cheer as Ali Khadri was named the best Under-21 player, their fan club was declared the best for the innovative ideas and meticulous execution, and seasoned Meshaal Abdullah was presented with a special recognition award for his standout performance this season.

Sheikh Khaled bin Abdulrahman Al Thani was honoured with the Football for All award for his contribution to the game while the honours for the best-managed Qatar Amateur League team went to champions Al Waab.

The annual QFA awards were held at QNCC where the Qatari football industry and invited foreign guests and officials attended to see this year's ceremony.

The lavish event was a who's who of Qatari football as the auditorium was packed with stars hoping to bag an award. The ceremony began by recognizing the various unseen work done by the police and the Red Crescent at matches throughout the season.

Then the QFA officials paid tribute to the media and sponsors handing out awards to various journalists and people from the business community. These awards where presented by the QFA President Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa bin Ahmed Al Thani, Hani Taleb Ballan Deputy CEO of the Qatar Stars League (QSL) and Hassan Al Thawadi, the Secretary-General, of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy.

This was the first time that the awards ceremony had been hosted at the impressive QNCC on the outskirts of town opposite Education City.

The first football award of the night went to Al Waab for their excellent team management in the newly formed Qatar Amateur League.

The night too was a big success for Al Ahli who managed to pick up a number of awards such as the Best Fans award which was accepted by Nasser Yacoub the audience and marketing officer and the best player under-21 which was won by Ali Ahmed Qadri, in addition to a special award for Al Ahli captain Meshal Abdulla.

Best team management was contested between El Jaish, Al Ahli and Al Sailiya.

The award was won by this season's surprise package Al Sailiya who finished in fourth spot in the QSL. The award ceremony was a great evening and capped off a great season that saw for the first time an expanded league with 14 highly competitive clubs taking part, making it a season to remember.
