Tehran keen on closer ties with Riyadh


(MENAFN- Kuwait News Agency (KUNA)) Iran is ready to strengthen ties with Saudi Arabia for the interests of both nations and the stability in the region, Iranian Government Spokesman Mohammad Baqer Nobakht said Wednesday. The Iranian Foreign Ministry will announce steps to bolster the relations with the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, Mehr News Agency (MNA) quoted Nobakht as saying. Tehran and Riyadh maintain neighborly relations, he said, noting that the expansion of mutual cooperation would benefit both countries and the entire region. Meanwhile, Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Hossein Amir Abdollahian announced that Tehran has not yet received any written invitation for Zarif's visit to Saudi Arabia. "We have not yet received any written invitation for our foreign minister's visit to Saudi Arabia," Amir Abdollahian said. Recently, Saudi Foreign Minister Saud Al-Faisal underlined the vital importance of improving relations with Iran, announcing that his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif has been invited to pay an official visit to Riyadh to pave the way for normalizing the bilateral relations.
